Richard Lustig is certainly not the biggest winner on our list but he is one of the most famous and he is arguably the luckiest.
Richard never won a jackpot over $1 million in his life. However, he is the winner of no less than seven, yes SEVEN, different grand prizes in various lotteries. He won three jackpots in Florida Fantasy 5, and an $842K jackpot in Mega Millions.
In total Lustig’s winnings totted up to $1.05 million before taxes. His lucky streak inspired him to write a book with tips on how to win the lottery which you can buy it on Amazon.
His philosophy was simple – invest your winnings in playing the lottery. The book inspired many players, but also attracted plenty of criticism.
Sadly, Richard passed away in 2018.
Mavis Wanczyk
Mavis Wanczyk, a 53-year-old mother of 2 from Massachusetts, was the lucky of winner one of the biggest prizes in US Powerball history landing a whopping pre-tax jackpot of $758.7 million (after tax she was left with $336.4 million) in August 2017. Her winning numbers were 6, 7, 16, 23 and 26 and the Powerball number was 4.
While Mavis had been planning on retirement in twelve years’ time, her life-changing win led her to bring that timeline forward some and she quit her job in the local hospital in Massachusetts shortly after her windfall. But Mavis had not always been so lucky. Tragically, Mavis’ husband passed away in a traffic collision nine months before she hit the jackpot.
Mavis, a family woman who values her privacy above all else, has been discrete about how she has been enjoying her jackpot winnings. Wanczyk has successfully protected her anonymity, except for the time when scammers try to take advantage of her famous name to trick lotto players. However, the police quickly revealed the scam and put an end to their scheme.
